As a member-driven organisation, the Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia (AVAA), convenes the AVAA Membership & Ethics Committee which plays a central role in upholding professionalism, credibility, and integrity across AVAA’s membership. By advising on standards, guiding processes, and ensuring alignment with best practice, the Committee safeguards the reputation of the Association and the sector it represents.

A Member-Centric Approach —

This Committee reflects AVAA’s member-driven culture. It provides a direct avenue for members to shape fair and consistent membership pathways, strengthen professional standards, and influence policies that support colleagues across the Association. Member contributions help ensure the AVAA community remains inclusive, credible, and respected.

Committee Activity —

The Membership & Ethics Committee ensures AVAA’s membership framework remains robust, fair, and internationally recognised. Its work balances high expectations with accessibility, giving existing members confidence in the integrity of their community while helping new members understand clear professional benchmarks. Every activity is designed to enhance trust, strengthen standards, and protect the AVAA brand.  The committee:

• Considers professional standards and other requirements for admission to membership.
• Ensures AVAA’s membership standards stand up well against international best practice.
• Reviews documentation associated with recruitment and renewal.
• Provides advice on prospective new company and individual members.

This Committee reflects AVAA’s member-centric approach, ensuring that the expertise, perspectives, and needs of members guide Association priorities, strengthen the profession, and help shape initiatives that serve both individuals and the broader auctioneering and valuing community.

Committee Membership —

Membership includes a Chair appointed from the AVAA Board and up to ten additional members chosen for their expertise, sector involvement, and geographic diversity. Appointments are made for a two-year term. The Committee meets online three to four times each year, supported by the AVAA National Office. Members cover their own costs when attending in person.
