AVAA Introduction Who We Are
.

Established in 1952, the Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia (AVAA) is the peak national body representing professionals and businesses across the auctioneering and valuation sectors. With a proud history of setting industry standards, providing advocacy for the sector, AVAA unites members under one voice to advance the sector.

We represent AVAA Certified Practising Auctioneers and AVAA Certified Practising Valuers across diverse fields, ranging from fine art, antiques and collectables, goods and chattels, automotive vehicles, aircraft and watercraft, plus plant and equipment. Our members bring trusted expertise, professional accountability, and ethical practice, ensuring clients, businesses, and government can engage with confidence in this highly specialised sector.

Legal Structure and Governance —

AVAA operates as an incorporated not-for-profit association, as is the case with may other peak professional associations and professional bodies. Strategic direction and oversight are provided by a elected Board, ensuring accountability, ethical governance, and alignment with member needs while safeguarding the Association’s independence and integrity.

Membership —

Our membership spans individual professionals and companies, with categories recognising experience and expertise. From emerging professionals to Certified Practising Members, AVAA provides recognition, professional development, and networking opportunities, reinforcing credibility in the marketplace through its trusted credentials.

Geographic Area of Operation —

AVAA is the only national body representing both auctioneers and valuers across Australia. Our reach extends nationwide, engaging members, businesses, and government agencies in all states and territories, ensuring consistency of professional standards across metropolitan, regional, and rural markets.

Activities —

We deliver education, training, and professional development, major events like the AVC26 Conference, and support members through policy advocacy, and strengthen the sector’s reputation through communication and engagement. Our activities are shaped by member input, ensuring AVAA remains responsive, relevant, and effective in promoting professional excellence.

As the 2025-30 AVAA Strategic Plan sets out, we collaborate with industry, government, and community stakeholders to strengthen professionalism and trust. We contribute to policy discussions on regulatory reform, promote ethical practice, and engage with the business community to ensure our sector remains recognised, respected, and influential in decision-making.

Working with AVAA means partnering in professionalism. As a member, industry partner, government body, or journalist you gain access to expertise, standards, and advocacy that strengthen outcomes. Through this collaboration, we advance auctioneering and valuation, ensuring confidence in the profession and its practitioners.
