AVAA Foundation Course —
Valuing Goods, Chattels, Plant & Equipment

Developed by the Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia (AVAA), this course provides a foundation in valuing goods, chattels, plant, and equipment. Designed for beginners, it introduces valuation processes and equips students with confidence, accuracy, and awareness of responsibilities when undertaking valuation tasks.

The course is self-paced, enabling students to learn flexibly and progress according to personal schedules. Automatic progress tracking allows resuming anytime, while short quizzes at each module’s conclusion consolidate knowledge, ensuring strong understanding of the material covered.

Module 1:  Introduction To Valuing —

An introduction to valuing, covering valuation technology, purposes and types of valuation, different property categories, and distinctions between owned and leased property, establishing a solid foundation for further learning.

Module 2:  Valuation Practice —

This module focuses on practical valuation skills, covering the overall process, preparation, and due diligence, while highlighting the importance of ethics, professional conduct, workplace management, and health and safety responsibilities.

Module 3:  Valuation Methods & Methodology —

An outline of core valuation methods, including market comparison, cost, and income approaches, plus techniques for assessing machinery, plant, equipment, and inventory, providing essential methodological knowledge for accurate valuations.

Module 4:  Valuation Reports —

This module examines the fundamentals of valuation reporting, highlighting key criteria, assumptions, and disclaimers, to ensure reports are accurate, transparent, and professionally presented in line with industry expectations.

Module 5:  Professional and Legal Considerations —

Addresses professional and legal considerations, you’ll look at valuation risks, administration, industry legal issues, and court appearances, equipping students with awareness of responsibilities and obligations within professional valuation practice.

This course is an excellent introduction to valuation, combining practical skills, core methodologies, and professional responsibilities. It builds a strong foundation in process, reporting, and legal considerations, equipping students with confidence, knowledge, and ethical awareness essential for future valuation practice.
