AVAA Government Affairs Committee
.
As a member-driven organisation, the Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia (AVAA), convenes the AVAA Government Affairs Committee that ensures members’ voices are heard in policy and advocacy. By refining AVAA policy statements, reviewing submissions, and engaging with governments, the Committee strengthens recognition of the sector and ensures members’ interests are represented in decision-making.
A Member-Centric Approach —
This Committee exists to ensure member perspectives directly influence the Association’s advocacy. Members help shape submissions, guide consultation responses, and identify policy priorities that reflect the needs of practitioners across Australia. Their input ensures AVAA remains proactive, credible, and respected when representing the profession in government and regulatory discussions.
Committee Activity —
The AVAA Government Affairs Committee gives auctioneers and valuers a unified and respected presence in government and policy circles. Its work ensures that the sector is recognised, consulted, and able to influence decisions that affect professional practice. By monitoring issues and preparing responses, the Committee helps the profession remain visible, credible, and influential. The committee:
- Develops and refines AVAA Policy Statements so that that are clear, evidence-based, and aligned with member views.
- Identify opportunities for proactive engagement with government to build recognition and influence on key industry issues.
- Review submissions to parliamentary and departmental consultations to ensure the views of members is clear.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments so members are informed and AVAA can respond quickly and effectively.
The work of the committee is supported by the knowledge and guidance of the AVAA National Office, drawing on extensive professional policy advocacy experience, deep sectoral insight, and broad contacts across departmental stakeholders, industry leaders, and the federal parliament.
Committee Membership —
Membership includes a Chair appointed from the AVAA Board and up to ten additional members selected for their skills, sector involvement, and geographic representation. Members are appointed for a two-year term. The Committee meets online three to four times a year, with secretariat support from the AVAA National Office. Face-to-face costs are self-funded.
