As auction and valuation businesses become increasingly reliant on digital platforms, online transactions, and data-driven systems, cyber security and technology governance are no longer abstract concerns. They are now core business risks requiring informed, proactive, and coordinated management across the sector.

Recognising this shift, the Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia (AVAA) has established the AVAA IT & Cyber Security Interest Group, providing a dedicated opportunity for the sector to better understand, anticipate, and respond to emerging digital and cyber challenges.

The AVAA IT & Cyber Security Interest Group offers AVAA Corporate Members a structured channel to receive timely, sector-specific information on technology, cyber risk, and digital compliance issues. Its focus is practical, relevant, and business-centred, supporting stronger business resilience across auction and valuation firms nationwide.

The AVAA IT & Cyber Security Interest Group is designed to assist businesses to make informed technology and investment decisions with increased confidence, risk awareness, and incident readiness. In an environment of growing regulatory expectations and rapidly evolving threats, access to clear, trusted information is critical.

Participation in the AVAA IT & Cyber Security Interest Group is open to employees of AVAA Corporate Members, reflecting the reality that cyber security and digital governance are shared responsibilities across leadership, operational, and technical roles within professional auction and valuation businesses.

The Group also creates valuable opportunities for staff networking, fostering collaborative relationships between professionals who share common technology and cyber security interests, challenges, and responsibilities. This peer-to-peer engagement strengthens practical problem-solving, shared learning, and cross-business insight across the sector.

The issues covered through the AVAA IT & Cyber Security Interest Group include cyber security threats, vulnerabilities, and incident response; data protection, privacy, and regulatory compliance obligations; secure online auctions and digital transaction platforms; technology governance, systems assurance, and vendor risk; digital identity, fraud prevention, and scam mitigation; and emerging technologies affecting auctioneering and valuation services.

The Interest Group functions primarily as an information distribution and awareness channel, ensuring Corporate Members receive consistent, practical updates without duplicating formal policy development, consultation, or advocacy activities.

Formal policy positions and submissions remain the responsibility of the relevant AVAA National Policy Committee, maintaining clear governance boundaries while maximising the tangible value delivered to AVAA Corporate Members.

Participation in the AVAA IT & Cyber Security Interest Group is open to employees of AVAA Corporate Members. To get involved, simply download and complete the nomination form below and return it to the AVAA Membership Team.

The AVAA IT & Cyber Security Interest Group delivers practical, relevant value for AVAA Corporate Members, supporting awareness, preparedness, and confident decision-making in an increasingly digital operating environment.
