The Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia (AVAA) has introduced its own professional designations, recognising members who meet the highest standards in auctioneering and valuation.  Post-nominals carry weight across respected professions, with AVAA’s approach reflecting that in law, medicine, accounting, and engineering, they immediately signal expertise, credibility, and trust.

The introduction is an outcome of the 2025–30 AVAA Strategic Plan, one of a number of priorities to elevate the standing of professional auctioneers and valuers.

AVAA Certified practising mmbers are now entitled to use post-nominals that recognise their professionalism and expertise. Where a member has achieved accreditation in both disciplines, both may be proudly displayed. For example, Jane Smith CAAu CVAu instantly communicates to clients and colleagues that her knowledge and skills have been assessed, verified, and endorsed by Australia’s peak body for auctioneers and valuers:

This entitlement is exclusive to AVAA certified practising members. It is not available to every auctioneer or valuer in the marketplace, only to those who have successfully met the Association’s rigorous admission criteria, adhere to the AVAA Code of Ethics, and commit to ongoing professional development. For clients, businesses, and government agencies, the presence of these post-nominals provides instant recognition and confidence. For those without them, the absence is noticeable and may prove to be a disadvantage in an increasingly competitive market.

AVAA members entitled to use the post-nominals are encouraged to apply them consistently across business cards, email signatures, websites, social media, reports, and formal communications. Each appearance reinforces professional credibility while strengthening the reputation of AVAA as the peak national body representing auctioneers and valuers. Consistent use ensures that both individual achievement and collective identity are highly visible.

The introduction of the CAAu and CVAu post nominals is a milestone for the auctioneering and valuation profession. For eligible members, these designations are a badge of honour, a visible marker of trust, and a professional advantage that elevates their standing in the eyes of clients and peers. For those not yet eligible, they are a powerful reminder that excellence must be earned and that belonging to the ranks of recognised professionals requires commitment, accountability, and expertise.

The AVAA post-nominals are more than letters after a name. They are a symbol of achievement, an exclusive entitlement of membership, and a proud declaration of professionalism.

Ends.
