The Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia has appointed Tim Slattery and Tony Kent as AVAA Fellows, recognising their leadership, professional judgement and contribution to Australia’s auction and valuation sectors.

Respected nationally, AVAA Fellowship is the Association’s highest level of professional recognition. It is reserved for experienced practitioners whose careers demonstrate sustained excellence, trusted judgement and a meaningful contribution to their profession.

For the auction and valuation sectors, recognising leaders matters. These professions depend on experience, integrity and sound decision-making, often in circumstances where clients, courts, financial institutions, insurers and government agencies rely heavily on professional advice. Fellowship provides a visible way to recognise people who have earned that trust over many years.

Tim has been appointed an AVAA Fellow Certified Auctioneer, carrying the esteemed FCAAu post-nominals.

Tim Slattery FCAAu

Tim Slattery is Co-Managing Director and co-owner of Slattery Grays Auction Group and has served as AVAA President since 2016. His leadership has supported national business growth, innovation, stronger professional standards and greater recognition for auctioneers and valuers. With experience spanning asset advisory, auctions, valuation, law and governance, Tim is a respected advocate for integrity, professionalism and the future of the sector.

Tony has been appointed an AVAA Fellow Certified Valuer and may now use the esteemed FCVAu designation.

Tony Kent FCVAu

Tony Kent has worked in plant and machinery valuation since 1999, undertaking assignments across aviation, mining, construction, transport, marine, agriculture and manufacturing. A Director of Valuations & Appraisal Services Australasia, Tony has also provided years of professional leadership, technical assistance and knowledge-sharing. His practical experience, specialist expertise and commitment to fellow valuers make him a highly deserving AVAA Fellow Certified Valuer.

It also acknowledges the contribution made beyond individual assignments or transactions. Industry leaders strengthen their profession by sharing knowledge, mentoring colleagues, contributing to professional bodies, guiding standards and helping the next generation develop. Much of that work happens quietly, yet its impact can be felt across the entire sector.

To be considered for AVAA Fellowship, an applicant must have at least 10 years of experience in auctioneering or valuation and demonstrate leadership as a senior executive or business proprietor. Applicants must also have held the respected AVAA Certified Valuer (CVAu) or AVAA Certified Auctioneer (CVAu) credential for at least five years.

The criteria further recognise service to the profession. Applicants may demonstrate at least three years of service to AVAA as a Director, committee member, event speaker or in another capacity accepted by the AVAA Board. Alternatively, they may demonstrate at least five years of service to the broader industry through a professional or industry body. Applicants must also have a clear professional record with no unresolved complaints.

These requirements make Fellowship an important recognition of both career achievement and professional contribution. They reflect the reality that leadership is measured through the quality of a person’s work, the judgement they bring to difficult matters and the contribution they make to the people and institutions around them.

The appointments of Tim Slattery FCAAu and Tony Kent FCVAu also highlight AVAA’s standing as Australia’s premier professional body for certified valuers and auctioneers. Through its certification, professional standards, education and advocacy, AVAA is building stronger recognition for those whose expertise supports businesses, consumers and institutions across Australia.

For established CAAu and CVAu credential holders, Fellowship offers a natural opportunity to have years of leadership and service formally recognised. The FCAAu and FCVAu designations tell clients, colleagues and government that the holder is an accomplished professional who has helped shape and strengthen the sector.
