26 March 2020,

Dear AVAA Members,

We hope you are remaining safe in these difficult times.

The AVAA has been in contact with the Premiers office of each state and can confirm that we have received confirmation from SA, TAS, NSW and VIC that the restrictions put in place on 24 March 2020 regarding auction houses, did not include auctions done remotely, ie, online.

It is the collective and swift efforts by the AVAA and their members that prevented online auctions being accidental collateral damage as a result of fast moving decisions and external factors.

It is key to note that the restrictions implemented for COVID-19 are to be strictly adhered to and the AVAA has introduced, in collaboration with AVAA Corporate members, the AVAA Australian Auctioneering Protocol for COVID19  The protocol is designed to ensure the highest standards are maintained while auctions continue to operate remotely (online).

While this is designed for, and with, AVAA members, it is encouraged to be implemented and followed by all Auction Houses.

The AVAA encourages all Auction Houses to put the safety of their staff and the public at the forefront, and to ensure everyone works together to minimise the spread of COVID-19.

Stay safe,
